Butterflies in Lodi Garden

An article a few days back in the national daily, The Times of India inspired to wake up early this Sunday morning and head to the Lodi Gardens. The beautiful winged insects, squirrels, red trees, people exercising and cobwebs ensured that I clicked only  a few frames of the monuments.

 

Click walk at Lodi Gardens

I went for a click walk, after a long gap, last week. We went to Lodi Gardens. The slight nip in the air, the beautiful flowers, and nice blue skies welcomed my camera and me with a warmth that is hard to describe. I had a great time working with these photographs. I hope you like them as well.

You will find red earthen bowls like these at lots of places across Delhi, outside homes, in parks, on the road dividers, outside offices, etc. A lot of people believe in leaving water and bajra (pearl millet) seeds in these pots for birds and rodents like squirrels. I found this brave little squirrel who was so determined to get to the food that she ignored my presence to reach for what was hers.

Old and New

With my birthday just around the corner, this photograph holds a special meaning for me. Time to make the message (that I see here) the motto for the coming year. Bye to the old and usher in the new and better times with a splash of red!

Raisina Hill at Dusk

Dusk is the best time of the day to visit the Raisina Hill. The moment when the sunlight simmers and the lamposts are switched on is nothing but magical. The red blooms just add to the drama around some of the highest government offices of India.

Something Red and Unusual

This is a board of a street-side shop at Lajpat Nagar. I clicked this photo because I found the word play in 'T-shirtalaya' interesting. 'Alaya' in Sanskrit means abode like the Himalayas mean the abode of snow. Here the shopkeeper showed immense creativity, in my opinion, in naming his shop T-shirtalaya.

From the airport, which I showed you last time, today I take you to the Old Delhi railway station. Delhi has several important stations and among these, Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station are the most prominent ones.

I had recently gone to Old Delhi Railway Station to board a train to Jodhpur. The entrance, painted in yellow and red, is grand.
The platform is quite neat and tidy. And the train was on time. So I was a happy traveller :-)

April Theme Day: Red: Horns

To welcome the month of April, CityDailyPhoto decided the theme as RED. I could think of nothing better but these RED devil's horns that are sold around the India Gate gardens. If you follow cricket, you would know that the Delhi DareDevils represent my city in the Indian Premier League. Most supporters wear these horns, which can be lit by pushing a small switch. I hope the month of April proves lucky for Delhi and the team fares well in the ongoing IPL.

Colourful Hair Braiding

The lady in the photo sits outside of Dilli Haat and offers to braid hair with colourful threads at a reasonable price. A lot of college going students and people in their 20s are seen getting their hair braided. I have gotten my hair braided once or twice and can tell you for sure that a little yellow, violet or red in one's hair always makes for great conversation!

I admit it. I am fascinated with red chairs. This cushioned one got my attention at a Gurgaon mall. Sometime back I had penned a drabble and this chair reminded me of that. You can read the piece here.
