Hauz Khas Village and Fort

My friends and colleagues often tease me that since my blog does not have a single post on Hauz Khas Village, I'm not a true Delhiite and definitely not a worthy Delhi photo-blogger. Finally, after 5 years I decided to make amends. I took a walk in the posh village market, which has the impressive Hauz Khas Fort as the backdrop, with my camera. Here is the loot:

Karol Bagh

I could have come up with a more witty and artistic title for this post. But I think the title would have been a 1000 words long paragraph. Karol Bagh is a paradox. There is possibly everything that one might need in this market.

And many many more things that make this market a shopaholic's delight. So come shopping with me to Karol Bagh :-)

Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.

The market association of Janpath recently came up with the idea of beautifying the market by setting up a cage for rabbits. I have over the last few months seen a lot of parents trying to entertain their children, who appear to be sick of shopping, in front of this cage. The good thing about this place is that the cage is kept well and is cleaned regularly.

This is the display of brass idols of various Hindu gods and goddesses at the Cottage Industries Emporium, Janpath. The emporium is a one stop-shop to buy everything Indian. You can buy souvenirs, saaris, paper mache products and after a tiring shopping spree through the three floors of this complex, you can relax at the coffee house on the top floor.

State Emporiums

This is the lane of state emporiums. These are government owned shops which have been established to promote the crafts and textiles of each state of India. It is one of my favourite places to take guests, who come from outside of India. Shopping here is bliss as you can buy souvenirs from the whole of India in a matter of couple of hours.

Venkatesh, Nalli Saree Shop

This is Venkatesh, who assisted a friend and me on our recent saree shopping spree at Nalli. He was very business-like to begin with, showing little interest in what I had to say. Once I clicked his photo and asked him his name, he was very sweet to us and helped us pick a beautiful saree. One of my most favourite teachers, Sabiha Farhat, had taught me, almost unknowingly, that a smile and a few kind words are all it takes to make someone feel important.

Jackets on display at one of the street shops in Janpath. I truly believe that no amount of winter wear is sufficient and hence I was shopping once again. The search was not satisfactory so I am planning another shopping spree. You are invited to join me for some fun shopping and a hot cuppa coffee. :-)

Statue(tory) Welcome!

Ansal Plaza, one of the first malls in Delhi, has installed these beautiful statues at the entrances to welcome shoppers. I liked the idea and the statues.

Answer Plus More Shopping

Sorry for the delay in answering. No one was able to guess correctly. But those were shelves I spotted at the Spykar outlet in Connaught Place. I though they were interesting so clicked them but unfortunately failed to get a shot of them stacked with clothes. Maybe next time. This is another interesting shelf from the same shop.
