The Lost Box

I get very emotional whenever I see a letterbox. In this day of instant messaging, even email is limited to official communication or sending a barrage of forwards which often are sent umpteen number of times. Writing letters, sticking stamps, dropping them in the letterbox and then anxiously waiting for a reply have sadly become a part of folklore. I remember writing letters to my grandparents. Some of those letters have stood the test of time and have been preserved by them for over 2 decades. One day, I'll show my children these letters and will try and explain the whole process of letter writing with great difficulty.


This neglected letterbox in Karol Bagh has been reduced to a place where people throw garbage and stick posters.

I could have come up with a more witty and artistic title for this post. But I think the title would have been a 1000 words long paragraph. Karol Bagh is a paradox. There is possibly everything that one might need in this market.

Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot. - Charlie Chaplin

A man, dressed as one of the greatest actors of all time - Charlie Chaplin, on the streets of Karol Bagh market, promoting a mall that was inaugurated just a few days ago. Accompanying him is a small boy, who earns his livelihood by polishing boots. The good thing about the man was that he was not just trying to cajole shoppers into the mall but was also entertaining poor children, who I am pretty sure have never had the chance to see any of Mr Chaplin's comedies about the Tramp.

Already Packing My Bags!

Started packing my bags. I know its too early, but I am way too excited. Its just some 9-10 days left for my holiday and I am busy getting a deep hole in my pocket right now. I spotted this particular street side shop in Karol Bagh. The bags, the sales guys promised would last me a lifetime. They have a trendy collection but I am too much of a cynic to trust the verbal assurances and passed the awesome bargains they were offering. It was worth a photo for the blog though.

Landscaped Garden, St. Thomas Jr. School

This is a landscaped garden adorning the St. Thomas Jr. School in Karol Bagh. This space is very close to my heart as I have played in this little ground as a girl in her school uniform, before the landscaping took over. Returning back to the school I suddenly felt like Gulliver on a miniature island. Everything that had been GIGANTIC as a child, seemed to have dwarfed significantly in the span of last 15 years. Hmmm life sure is a strange thing.

Gol Guppas At Roopak Stores

This is one of the best chaat centres across the city. This is the Roopak Gol Guppa wala in Karol Bagh and I can guarantee you that once you have the gol guppas here you'll come back again and again. So I leave you today with a mouth-watering post.

Appliances Shop, Karol Bagh

Like a typical guest at a typical Indian wedding, my friend and I went shopping for a typical gift at the typical appliances store in Karol Bagh. We bought a sandwich maker for out friend about to be married in the coming week. Hope you have an exciting week ahead... However, if it turns out to be typical. No worries. Typical is not bad :-)

I just could not resist clicking this one. The name of the shop captured my attention. This is one of the thousands of shops in Karol Bagh. The market is the place to go if you want to pick some up-market Indian wear.

Paw

Doggy paw. This is unfortunately not my pup's paw... he is still too young to be able to leave such a big footprint. This is the paw that I clicked in a dog shop/salon/restaurant/hotel in Karol Bagh. The three storey building has anything and everything a dog might need or not need. I liked the paw motif that decorated the place. I bought a coat for my dog, named Ross after the character Ross in the American sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. When we bought him home he refused to respond to Joey or Chandler... so we had to settle for Ross. :-)He is a black Labrador, now nine months old and is feeling a little chilly with the onset of winter.
