Lodi Gardens

I met a school friend of mine - Richa over the weekend. Work has taken her to the city of Mumbai and she terribly misses Delhi and is a regular Delhi Photo Diary visitor. We both decided that to enjoy Delhi in her Spring best, we must meet for a morning walk in Lodi Gardens. Trust me there is no better way to feel the fresh air, get a few good photos and share the lives two friends have lived over the last 4 years.

Beautiful flowers welcomed us.Soon the walk turned into an exploration as hints of history began to peek out from the shade of trees.

A few more steps took us to this majestic tomb.

The trees and fascinating play of light and shadow kept me entertained as I clicked a lot of photographs.

Meanwhile, Richa sat pretty dreaming, and looking at the trees and greenery all around.

A majestic row of tall trees bade us farewell.

Dastakar Spring Mela

Some more colours as Delhi goes all out to welcome and celebrate the Spring season. Over the weekend, I went to Spring edition of the Dastakar Mela. Dastakar is Hindi for handicrafts. The event held at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts is a celebration of the handicrafts from all over India.

As we entered the lush green lawns, we saw this man sitting outside his stall and making lac bangles.

This was his final work.

Further into the mela, I spotted these wood carvings and cane furniture pieces.

There were a lot of terracotta plant holders for gardening enthusiasts.I loved these butterfly shaped garden steps.
There was a lot to eat but the best find in the food court was Daulat ki Chat. Traditionally chat is full of salt and spices. But Daulat ki Chat is a sweet preparation. It is made of the milk foam and has just a little bit of sugar and is garnished with pista (pistachio), kesar (saffron) and powdered brown sugar. In short, it is DELICIOUS!

Landscaped Garden, St. Thomas Jr. School

This is a landscaped garden adorning the St. Thomas Jr. School in Karol Bagh. This space is very close to my heart as I have played in this little ground as a girl in her school uniform, before the landscaping took over. Returning back to the school I suddenly felt like Gulliver on a miniature island. Everything that had been GIGANTIC as a child, seemed to have dwarfed significantly in the span of last 15 years. Hmmm life sure is a strange thing.

Garden, M-Block Market, GK-II

This is the garden just below my office. Some of my colleagues and I often go down here to have our tea during the chilling winters. The greens are a great remedy to brighten up the day when the sun is busy playing hide-n-seek with us. :-)
