The Dance of the Flame

With frequent electricity failures across Delhi, candles are a constant feature in homes in the city. I like capturing the different shapes of the flame. Here are a few of my favourite captures of the past few days.

Dream Shot!

Since the time I bought my camera, I have been trying to get the perfect shot of a honey bee on a flower. My aspirations were realized on my recent trip to Mussoorie. Hope all of you like this photograph as much as I love it.


Will bring more photographs from my trip in the days to come. This was the first outing my camera had out of Delhi!

The quarrels of lovers are the renewal of love. Or so I have been told by these flowers blooming outside the YMCA building.

I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain; What a wonderful feeling, I'm happy again.

Delhi has turned a beautiful shade of green. The weather is awesome and the rains have worked like magic to elevate the spirits of the city, which till last week was burning like hot coal. Here, I have captured the first drops of rain that fell on my city last evening.

I was lucky to spot this sun-rise today. My Delhi is beautiful :-)

Environment Friendly Job: Raddi-wala

We in India have been environment friendly for a long time. Our re-cycling also keeps in mind the economics. Today I present the "raddi-wala'. The old newspapers and magazines are called 'Raddi'. It is customary for Indian households to stock a stack of old newspapers. Depending on the space in home and the newspapers a household subscribes to, the stack of 'raddi' varies from a minimum of 5Kg to as much as 20Kgs in some households.


This is Janakraj, the 66-year-old man who has been buying the 'raddi' at my house for the last 10 years. His day starts at 5 o'clock. He goes all across Central Delhi buying 'raddi' from homes and offices. The rate at present is Rs 6 per Kg. And I sold 10Kg of old newspapers.

He weighs the newspapers, calculates the amount he will give and gives the money with a smile.
He then fills his sack with the paper.

Then off he goes to earn his livelihood and make earth a better place.



He sells his collection of old newspapers, magazines, glass bottles, old plastic containers to a wholesale "raddi-wala", who in turn sells his collection to paper mills that produce recycled paper.

Boundary Wall, Agrasen Ki Baoli

I truly believe that Delhi is one of the very few cities across the world, where you can spot a part of history in the centre of the urban hub. This is the boundary wall of the Agrasen Ki Baoli (Baoli is well) in the heart of Connaught Place. I could not go inside since the caretaker had decided to call it a day and locked the gates and left for his home at just 3 in the afternoon, although his time to leave is at 5 30 in the evening. Anyhow, not one to give up easily, I will try to make it to the baoli some other day, soon. For now I bring to you the boundary wall.

Lamp, India Gate

A place to have some clean and safe fun is India Gate. Surrounded by plush lawns, this central Delhi monument, which marks the modern history of India, is just the palce to be during a nice cool day that we are having in Delhi today. Since I am stuck in office and trying to amuse myself by looking outside the window at the mild sun, I thought of sharing a part of my favourite spot in Delhi (where I'd rather be than in office, at least today :-)). This is one of the lamps, albeit without a light, which surrounds the main gate, which I have featured on the blog earlier.
