Caught in the wind of past

This shade of past reminds me of the old Hindi suspense films. Stare at the photograph long enough and a mystery, caught in the wind of the past, will unfold to hold your attention.

Golcha

Before the multiplexes took over Delhi, single screen theatres like Golcha were the cool places to be. People, who were in college in the 1970s, have bag full of stories about how and when they saw which Hindi movie at one of these theatres. Golcha is among the last single screen theatres dotting the Delhi map.

The new face of Connaught Place

The Gopal Das Building is the new face of Connaught Place. Any TV serial or film relies on a long shot of this building if they want to show that the story is set in Connaught Place. Though the trend is repetitive, I don't blame the directors as this building is quite a good looking one.

Regal

Once the favourite joint of writers, artists, journalists, Regal today has been reduced to a cinema that shows B-grade Hindi movies or raunchy English cinema (as the posters will testify). In its heyday, the cinema found mention in the stories of the greats like Ruskin Bond. But today, parents have started warning their children to keep away from even the periphery of the cinema hall. However, it still is a landmark and directions around the Connaught Place are given with Regal as reference point.

Chashme Buddoor - Talkatora Gardens

This is the snack joint in Talkatora Gardens that was made famous by the film, Chashme Buddoor. This is the exact table where Farooq Sheikh took Deepti Naval for one of their dates. The snack joint has a very romantic setting and having the first cup of morning tea after a good walk at this spot is magical.

Shahrukh Khan (SRK)

I am 3 days late to post this photo. It was Shahrukh Khan's (SRK) birthday on November 2. If you are wondering that what a Hindi film superstar's photo is doing on a Delhi daily photo blog... Let me tell you my justifications.

Firstly, SRK was born and brought up in Delhi. By his own admission he is a true dilli-wala.

Also, almost all of the national dailies carry his photograph on one pre-text or the other every day.

Last but not the least, one of his biggest fans (read me :-)) resides in Delhi.
