These colourful hair extensions are called 'paraandi'. They are traditionally worn by Punjabi women and over the years, other women from the North of India have also started wearing them. The black portion of the 'paraandi' is woven with the plait and the colourful part is left dangling at the end of the plait. I will someday show you a girl/lady wearing it.

Interesting and different! At first, I thought they were tassels to decorate curtains!
