Baby Delight!

This is the newest arrival in our neighbourhood! She is called 'Pari', Hindi for Angel. The first grandchild of the family, she is a darling of everyone in the neighbourhood. With a smile like that, she certainly has my adulation!

Nanhe Phool (Little Flowers)

Its a lovely, romantic weather in Delhi, and I had none other than 'Nanhe'(or the youngest one) asking me to buy red roses. He stands at the traffic light crossing and when ever the signal turns red, he goes from car to car pitching his red buds at minimal prices. I often buy these almost dying flowers on my way to office or back home. Not for the flowers, since I believe roses are over-rated, but just to have a little chat with the likes of Nanhe.

Rains are here

The scorching summers that we, Delhiites, were fearing almost seem like a figment of our imagination. With cool winds preceding the heavy downpour, Delhi has become an awesome place right now. If you can, come to Delhi today itself. :-)

Happy Gudi Padwa (New Year)

Today is 'Gudi Padwa', the Marathi New Year. This day is celebrated on Shuddha Pratipada, the first day in the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April). Festivities of Gudi Padwa lasts for three and a half days. The word 'padwa' means the end of one harvesting season and beginning of another. According to Brahma Purana, Gudi Padwa is the day on which universe was created by Lord Brahma and Satyug began.

The photograph is of the building of our new flat in Gurgaon. I thought ushering in the New Year with the photo of the new home would be a good idea.

Basketball Court

This is one place I liked most in the school. Being in the basketball team was somewhat of an honour that we did not take lightly and in fact made most use of it to bunk language classes. This particular basketball court is not the one in my school. This is the court where my brother plays. Must say St. Michael School has a good court. Miss school days.

Footwear, Janpath

Footwear is something that most of the girls I know have a fetish for. I am no different. With shops at Janpath offering so many varieties at the cheapest possible rates, footwear and choices have never been a problem. Do give these a try when you are in Janpath. A word of caution: Since these are not too expensive, there durability is questionable. They make for a great style statement though!

Use Me!

This is a dustbin I spotted in St. Michael School, where my brother, Akshat studies. Now if dustbins were this cute not everyone would like to dump garbage into them. However, I do believe that in a city like ours, where tonnes and tonnes of garbage is produced almost every hour, utilities like these are extremely necessary.

Saari At FabIndia

This is a Gujarati style sari draped on a mannequin at a FabIndia outlet. This is one of the best chain of stores to pick up nice comfortable cottons to last you the summer.

Ear-rings, Janpath

A collection of ear-rings on sale at Janpath. These table shops offerings spoil one for choices. Not more than 30 to 40 rupees, for a good bargainer, these ear-rings are a cheap but value-for money buy.

Lamp, India Gate

A place to have some clean and safe fun is India Gate. Surrounded by plush lawns, this central Delhi monument, which marks the modern history of India, is just the palce to be during a nice cool day that we are having in Delhi today. Since I am stuck in office and trying to amuse myself by looking outside the window at the mild sun, I thought of sharing a part of my favourite spot in Delhi (where I'd rather be than in office, at least today :-)). This is one of the lamps, albeit without a light, which surrounds the main gate, which I have featured on the blog earlier.

Handicraft Bazar, Gole Market

This is the Handicraft Bazar, or the Cottage Emporium in Gole Market. This beautiful shop is walking distance from my house but is not easily spot by people new to the central Delhi area. Hiding in the back lanes of the Gole Marlet, the Handicraft Bazar is a treasure trove of various beautiful clothes, jewelery and artifacts. If you are in Delhi and want to pick up some nice things, you know what to do. Simple, tell me and I'll take you there. :-)

Roadside Bougainvillea

For those who think that I was exaggerating about flowers erupting along the road, this is the final post in the series of flowers. With such beautiful flowers everywhere, driving becomes a pleasure and at the same time for someone like me its unimaginable to drive past without stopping and clicking these beautiful bougainvillea plants. Tomorrow a respite from flowers and Spring. I'll get you other aspects of Delhi. :-)

Even expecting that I click or post anything except for flowers at this time of the year would be a sin. So here I bring more blossoms from Delhi.

The bad thing about Spring in Delhi is that it is short lived. the good thing is that the 15 days that the season lasts, flowers erupt, rather than bloom in every possible place. This is a bright red bushel I spotted while driving to work. Will get you more road-side flowers in the days to come. Happy Spring!

Lighted Back-Alley

This is the back-alley of a restaurant in Bikaner House in Delhi. Bikaner is a desert town in Rajasthan. The Bikaner House in Delhi is the office of the state in the capital of the country. The place is famous for the half-hourly bus service it provides to the capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur. I have so far not had a chance to visit this eatrie, but will surely try it out soon and bring photos for you all.

Sci-fi Bus Stop

This is a bus stop at the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System in South Delhi. I was attracted to click this bus stop for two reasons. One, it looks like something which features in sci-fi films. Moreover, the Delhi government uses the space to advertise social messages like saving electricity across the billboards placed on this bus stop.

Go Green!

The best part about Delhi, New Delhi and South Delhi specifically, is that any place where any amount of green can be adjusted, you will find plants occupying the space. These are vines planted below a flyover. I think such a policy should be adopted throughout the world as it not only, albeit in a small percentage, betters the urban environment, the greens bring a cheer to the otherwise mundane concrete jungles inhabited by us urban animals. :-)

Early Morning At Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station

More relatives are visiting Delhi and yours truly was at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station to receive them. It was amazing to be at the station in the wee hours as it was quite empty, a big change from its usually bustling character. This is one of the few last cool mornings that Delhi will be lucky to experience and soon the scorching sun will come to haunt us.

Metal Scraps

Similar metal scraps were used to decorate a saari shop next to my office. I think that the final effect of the art is magnificent. It gives the shop a royalty that is unmatched. Will get a photo of the final shop soon.

Laxmi Narayan Temple

This is the Laxmi Narayan Temple, walking distance from my house. This is the first place that most guests coming from outside Delhi to my place, want to visit. Its easy being a host if such a beautiful temple is located at the vicinity. I could click only the building since photography is banned inside the temple. Visiting temples is something that Indians do at all possible occasions. I will soon be taking Akshat, my younger brother to this wonderful temple as he is on the threshold of giving one of the most important exams of his life.. the 10th standard boards. Please wish him all the luck.

Theme Day: Glass: Glass House At National School Of Drama (NSD)

This is an installation in the National School of Drama (NSD). The photograph was clicked sometime last year. A man, sorry but I forget his name, had attempted to live in a GLASS house for a month. I thought it was innovative but I would never do something even remotely similar.
