Dilli Haat in January

On a chilly winter evening in January one place in Delhi welcomes foodies and shopaholics with open arms. This place is called Dilli Haat. My friends and I decided to go to Dilli Haat one evening last week when the sky was a beautiful shade of blue.

The place was decorated with lights and flags and the breeze ensured that both danced in harmony.

The lanterns and stars gave a rustic touch to the ambiance.

Musicians from Rajasthan kept the visitors entertained while they ate and shopped.

With several stalls of ear-rings I spoilt for choice.

There were several shoe stalls as well which caught my attention.
The knickknacks attracted us the most and we all bought something unique. Lopa bought this keychain.

We left after a round of loud of laughter over a delicious meal.

Not Too Cold For Them!

While most of Delhi and Delhiites are freezing, soldiers at India Gate are busy practicing for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. Covered in 5 layers of woolens, I braved the cold to get this shot. A warm brrrrrrr to everyone visiting the blog :-)

Hot n Juicy

These Hot n Juicy kiosks have over the last couple of years come up all over the city. They sell various flavours of boiled corn seeds. It is a yum and hot treat during the long walks in the famous Delhi winters. I have decided to take a Thursday resolution not to crib about the cold anymore. So here is a happy winter to everyone!

Dilli ki Sardi (Delhi Winters)

With the mercury dipping to less than 8 degrees Celsius over the past few days and cold winds blowing all around, Nirula's, an eatery in Defence Colony is one of our favourite hangout zone. The walls are colorful and will tell you all there is to know about Delhi - Qutub Minar, white Ambassador car, a sardarji, horn signs visible on the trucks and yummy food. A happy winters everyone!

Early Morning At Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station

More relatives are visiting Delhi and yours truly was at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station to receive them. It was amazing to be at the station in the wee hours as it was quite empty, a big change from its usually bustling character. This is one of the few last cool mornings that Delhi will be lucky to experience and soon the scorching sun will come to haunt us.

Hope the weather in your city is pleasant. :-)

Miss The Winter

Why is it that old days become the good old days and most of us forget to enjoy the days as they happen. When the winters (rather short) were upon us, we kept complaining of the fog, the spine-chilling cold, bulky sweaters etc... but with the sun beginning to scorch, Delhiwalas (me included) have already started missing the winter days, like the one I photographed just 15 days ago or so. This is the footbridge at Pragati Maidan (venue of the India International Trade Fair)

Steel Gas Heater

This is a gas heater that most open venues use to ensure that the outing enthusiasts, like yours truly, do not die of the chill. Earlier, piles of coal were burned in iron tubs but this more sophisticated steel gas burner has my vote as some 20 such heaters actually raised the temperatures inside the tent, where I had gone for an event recently.

Foggy Morning!

Just as fog was almost about to disperse, I braved the chill and went out to click this photo!

Happy freezing winter over the weekend. :-)

Parking Lot From Office Terrace

The parking lot visible directly at the bottom of my office building. I clicked the top angle view as 1.) I was on the terrace trying to get a teeny-weeny bit of sun; 2.) Since I was on the terrace I was spoiled for choice and could just take this angle; 3.) I like top shots. They make me feel like a giant at the height of just 5'3". :-); 4.) The cold is so dreadful this time of the year (OK! agreed its not as bad as US r UK or even France or Canada, but I like to exaggerate) that exploring the city from the office terrace is the best bet I have to keep fueling the blog.

A nice and warm Wednesday to all. :-)

Garden, M-Block Market, GK-II

This is the garden just below my office. Some of my colleagues and I often go down here to have our tea during the chilling winters. The greens are a great remedy to brighten up the day when the sun is busy playing hide-n-seek with us. :-)

Keventers

Delhi is famous for its historical importance, markets, people and most importantly for food. Food is something that characterises Delhi like nothing else can. You have summer specific foods/drinks, rainy season street delicacies and winter cuisines and beverages. The photograph is of Keventers. It is an outlet in Connaught Place. It sells chilled flavoured milk in bottles shaped like the ones in Tom and Jerry. The milk in delicious and filling. Though it is a summer specialty, having it during a foggy winter evening is a pleasure I cannot describe in words. :-)

Shakarkandi, Sweet Potato

This is one of the most basic street food that you'll find in Delhi. This man roasts sweet potato and then mixes various salts and chili powders along with a generous helping of lemon juice, squeezed right in front of you. Its a filling snack for the winters.

Barista Umbrellas, Select City Walk

My obsession with coffee continues. This is the top view of one of the Barista outlets in Saket City Walk mall. The best part of having coffee here was the nice cool weather and the steamy cappuccino romancing each other under the bright red coloured umbrellas.
