Indian Music Finally Rings In Western Ears

With A R Rahman conquering the Oscars with two wins, I thought it appropriate to post pictures of some Indian musicians. These are rhythm players from North East India. the horizontally played drums have different names depending upon the wood used, leather strength and the states they belong to.

I suggest that those unfamiliar with the brilliance of Rahman surely visit his official site and give his music an ear or two. Lemme know what you think of it. Here is the link.

I stopped and read your blog and looked at the photograph. I just wanted you to know that from here this photo looks like it is a Rembrandt oil painting.

Was there partying in the streets of Delhi last night?

Kris,

There were celebrations on all the news channels and radio stations. I guess people in Chennai will take to streets once Rahman comes back home.

Most of us believe that the composition that won the award was one of his most average work... He has some great songs to his credit that the international community has been unfortunate to have missed.
