Big Chill Cafe, Khan Market

Audrey Hepburn welcomed me and my friends to the Big Chill Cafe earlier this week. While the menu card had the beautiful lady tempting us to order our heart's fill, the wall was lined artistically with posters of classic films, giving the place a warm feel.

Pleasing our eyes was not the motive, we were there to beat the summer heat. Not one to count calories when out for a good time, I ordered a plate of waffles with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate sauce.
Most of my friends, who had been to the Big Chill Cafe earlier recommended the Belgian Chocolate Shake. Take my word, it is the most sinfully delicious shake made anywhere is Delhi. It is a must have if you are in Khan Market.

Pride of my desk

After my stint at making pen-holders for my office desk, this is the pen holder I finally bought and decided to take to office. Love the woman with hallow eyes, bindi and ear-rings. :-)

Pen Holders-DIY

I recently went berserk looking for the perfect pen holder for my office desk. The search was so frustrating that I finally decided to make a couple of pen holders for myself.

I bought around 150 ice-candy sticks from the stationary shop and a tube of Fevicol.
The next step was easy and fun. I decided on a shape and began sticking the sticks in the same pattern.
After a layer of thick fabric paint, I had two pen holders ready to occupy their space on my desk. :-)

No sooner were my pen holders ready to be taken to office, I chanced to see what I had been searching for in the market. So the yellow triangle-shaped and the red star-shaped pen holders were kept at home and I took my prized find to office. Will show you that pen holder tomorrow. Hope you try making these pen holders. It is fun and easy to make.

Digging up Delhi for XIX Commonwealth Games 2010

If you come to New Delhi for the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, please spare a moment and appreciate that Delhiites have gone through a whole year of dug up roads to present a beautiful city to the visitors expected in October 2010. Here, men are working on replacing drainage pipes just outside of my house. Who said the games were all about sports?

Night Shots-India Gate

I love going for walks at night near India Gate. These are photographs I took on a recent walk to my most favourite place.

Sacred Heart Cathedral

This is the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Connaught Place. It is a beautiful church and I often go there with my Christian friends. Below are a couple of shots I took last evening.

Hanuman Temple

Every Tuesday, my mother goes to the temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. There are a lot of shops in the temple complex which sell idols, pendants, other things that might be offered to the presiding deity of the temple.

This is my mother making her offering to the idol and asking for blessings for her family and friends.

Early Morning Queue

The lifeline of Delhi-the CNG autorikshaws can be seen queued for miles near the gas-station. This is the only time they appear to be following some kind of rules. There is a madness to their method, which can be enjoyed only first-hand. However, if you like you can read one of my experiences in the three-wheeler right here.

National Gallery of Modern Art

Today, 18 May, is celebrated as International Museum Day all over the world since 1977. To mark the occasion, I have here a photo of the National Gallery of Modern Art. Over the past few months, the paintings by legends like Raja Ravi Verma, M.F. Husain, Amrita Sher-Gil, Tagore brothers- have been shifted to a new building. The new gallery has been designed keeping in mind the international design sensibilities.

I'll admit I liked the old setting in Jaipur House better, since it had a very regal appeal. but as long as the arts are being promoted and showcased I am a happy Delhiite.

Chulha, Stove, Angeethi

This section of utensils caught my fancy during my recent visit to Pahar Ganj. The electric blue and green iron things are kerosene stoves. Just below it, the square shaped things are called 'angeethi' and the iron stands with the semi-circular top and a flat base are called 'chullah'. While, coal is used in angeethis, wood is used in choolahs. All these are used for cooking food. Generally people who cannot afford LPG use these for cooking their meals.

Scary Monster

This the monster machine that scares all the drivers of Delhi. A crane that picks up cars parked in the no parking zones. Just spotting one of these gives my friends and me the hibbie jibbies. Hopefully, its ugly chains will never touch my black beauty. :-)

Cottage Industries Emporium, Janpath

I have more photos from my recent trip. But did not want to take away the Delhi soul from this blog. Have posted an account on my other blog-Priyanka's Point. Do visit and leave comments there. :-)

Now back to being a true Delhiite :-)

This is the display of brass idols of various Hindu gods and goddesses at the Cottage Industries Emporium, Janpath. The emporium is a one stop-shop to buy everything Indian. You can buy souvenirs, saaris, paper mache products and after a tiring shopping spree through the three floors of this complex, you can relax at the coffee house on the top floor.
