Theme Day : My corner local shop - Kirane Ki Dukaan

This is a sample of shops that adorn the various residential colonies of Delhi. In Hindi we call them "Kirane Ki Dukaan, Kirana means groceries and Dukaan means shop. I like to believe that these shops have some sort of magical powers. I mean they are squeezed into a small area but would have more variety of things than a sprawling supermarket. With malls coming up with loads of free schemes... I fear for the lifespan of these Kirana shops. :-)

More corner shop less malls. A perfect example of the theme.

Nice looking corner shop. I like the simple look and know the things there are a lot fresher than in the huge supermarkets where stuff is flown in from all over the world.

Very nice photograph. What a big difference.

Interesting way to shop. Looks much more fun than shopping in an ordinary old mall!

I hope that these vendors aren't squeezed out by the big boys!

Priyanka, you are right to worry about the longevity of your corner shop. It is good we are sharing photos now while they still exist ... It is also interesting to me how that much variety can be financially supported. Some items must sit and never be purchased.

I do like your corner shop. With every possible goods packed in a small space, it has a very special charm. I do hope that you are wrong but... Happy Theme Day, Priyanka!
